The western most point in Clare is often overlooked by visitors yet it has some of the most breath taking and beautiful cliff formations to be seen in Ireland. Travelling to Kilrush there is the options of visiting the small famine museum or the Vandeleur Walled garden. From Kilrush the stunning drive along the coastal road passes through Kilkee where there is a natural horseshoe bay and then on past the cliffs and natural rock formations, including the Bridges of Ross.
From here out to Loop head there is a chance to see the famous lighthouse, where you can climb to the top and take in the splendid views that stretch from County Kerry to the Cliff of Moher. This area is a wildlife haven, with thousands of seabirds nesting along the rock ledges and an estimated 160 bottlenose dolphins living in the mouth of the Shannon. Boat trips to see the dolphins are available but need to be booked in advance and are not generally included in this itinerary.
